Pause for thought, Some hae meat and canna eat, and some wad eat that want it, but we hae meat and we can eat and sae the lord be thankith "The Selkirk Grace" Robert Burns (1759-1796) Although during the season most of my guests see Copper Beech as a base for golf, there is however within a short drive away a host of wonderful thing, both historical and cultural which gives you a glimpse of what Ayrshire is all about. Top of the list has to be the Robert Burns trail our national Bard (as we call him) or poet who is read and celebrated the world over, due to his unique ability to capture the feelings that are in all our hearts and express them for us. In the Burns National heritage park local authority and our tourist board have worked to-gather over the years and have created an opportunity for you to capture his work and see what life was like in his time. Go see the centre and savour the experience. During 2001 a unique collection of paintings by the Glasgow artist Alexander Goudie is on display in Roselle house just along from the Bards cottage where you can experience his famous tale of Tam "O" Shanter capturing the gothic horror and humour of the story. Next you shouldn’t miss Culzean Castle as the Tourist Board suggests, it is indeed the jewel in the crown, designed by Robert Adam as a stately home for the Earl of Cassillis. Beautifully furnished and well worth a visit and just standing in the round drawing room as you look out to sea past Paddy’s mile stone towards Ireland you can imagine you are in a time capsule and part of another world. The Castle has strong links with USA as President Eisenhower has a flat here given as a gift by the Scottish people in thanks for being the allied commander during World War 2. I hope this taste of Ayrshire encourages you to explore what Ayrshire has to offer as this is only the tip of the Iceberg. Troon can offer a great combination of place’s to go, things to do, things to eat, things to see, and people to meet, I look forward to welcoming you to Copper beech Regards Norma
